Expressed milk was labelled with a barcode according to the mother patient, and cross-checked via barcode with the infant’s wristband to ensure the correct breastmilk was given to the infant. Data is recorded and can be accessed by management to ensure full visibility, ensuring compliance as well as accuracy. This type of system can be modified for a variety of healthcare uses, including medication administration and sample recording.

We developed a bespoke app to cross-check various barcodes and human-readable data between two separate labels, to ensure these matched and were complete with no missing data. Previously, they had been relying on operators manually doing this – leading to inaccuracies.
